The First Nations Energy Efficiency Program (FNEEP) is available to on-reserve homes in First Nations communities across New Brunswick.
First Nations communities identify which homes will receive eligible upgrades, based on community priorities and available funding. These decisions are based on each community’s unique priorities and needs.
Upgrades through the First Nations Energy Efficiency Program reduce energy use, improve indoor air quality, and make on-reserve homes more comfortable. These changes support healthier living spaces and reflect a continued responsibility to care for the land and future generations.
Work is carried out by community-preferred contractors. The First Nations Energy Efficiency Program team encourages the hiring of companies that are owned by First Nations members or who employ First Nations people.
Interested in energy-saving upgrades for your on-reserve home ? Please contact your local housing team or our program team for more information.

First Nations communities decide which homes receive eligible upgrades, based on community priorities and available funding.
2
Certified Energy Advisors visit each home to identify upgrades to improve comfort, safety, and energy efficiency.
3
After the energy evaluation, quotes are reviewed, and an upgrade plan is developed with the community. Final decisions are made with local leadership.
4
Community-preferred certified contractors complete the upgrades. Communities set the schedule, talk with residents, and make sure all rules and permits are followed.
5
A follow-up visit from a Certified Energy Advisor confirms the upgrades are complete and working well before final payments are made.
On-reserve homes are being upgraded with insulation, air sealing, heat pumps, electric hot water tanks, ventilation systems, and digital thermostats to improve comfort, indoor air quality, and energy efficiency. Community housing teams work with the program team and the North Shore Mi’kmaq Tribal Council to decide which homes receive these upgrades, based on their unique needs and priorities.

We respectfully acknowledge that New Brunswick is situated on the unceded and unsurrendered territories of the Wolastoqey, Mi'gmaw, and Peskotomuhkati peoples. We seek to repair and rebuild meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples and honour these lands which hold the hopes of future generations.
